In order to increase the capacity proposed on the routes linking the Channel Islands to themselves and to Saint-Malo, Condor Ltd decided to replace Condor 1 in 1975 by a new larger hydrofoil. The company renewed its confidence in Rodriquez shipyard, which was ordered a hydrofoil model RHS160, an improved version of Condor 3 and Condor 4. She was then introduced in 1976 on the route she was ordered to serve, and christened as Condor 5.

Condor 5 has been repainted in 1987. The following year, Condor 5 was transferred the Weymouth – Channel Islands route, where she remained until August 1990 with the introduction of Condor 9. She was laid up at the end of summer 1992, being replaced the following year by the much bigger Condor 10.

Condor 5 was sold to Hermes Ferries Shipping Co in 1993, alongside her fleetmate Condor 4 and renamed Iptamenos Hermes 3. She was sold again to Speedy Lines in 1998 and renamed Santorini Dolphin 2.

She has been scrapped in 2004.
