M/V Oscar Wilde

Kronprins Harald was launched on 31st August 1986, and delivered to Jahre Line on 23rd March 1987. She was introduced on 26th March 1987 on Jahre Line's Olso - Kiel route.

Kronprins Harald was purchased on October 1990 by Color Line, a new company established following the merge of Norway Line and Fred Olsen Lines. She was then repainted, her grey hull turning blue. She remained on the route for which she has been built.

In September 1997, Kronprins Harald was chartered to give departure to the sailing world wide race Whritbread by the race's organizers.

On 15th July 1999, Kronprins Harald grounded in Oslo fjord, and had to be diverted to Moss to disembark her passengers. She then headed to the Thyssen-Nordseewerke shipyard to be repaired. She resumed service on 19th July 1999.

Between November 2006 and January 2007, Kronprins Harald suffered from important engines issues. Meanwhile, Kronprins Harald was sold to the Irish Continental Group.

On the purpose of replacing the old Normandy, Irish Continental Group purchased Kronprins Harald on 22nd January 2007, before chartering her to Color Line until September of the same year. Therefore, Kronprins Harald performed her last commercial sailing with Color Line only on 1st September 2007.

Then, she was re-registered in Nassau and renamed Oscar Wilde. Following this, she went in Dry Dock in Frederica to be overhauled and refitted. Although Irish Ferries' photomontages featured her in a white hull with only the hull's bottom painted in green as the rest of the fleet, Oscar Wilde kept her blue hull.

Oscar Wilde performed her maiden voyage for Irish Ferries on 30th November 2007 between Rosslare to Cherbourg-en-Cotentin.

On 10th March 2008, Oscar Wilde broke her moorings in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, and pushed by the wind, crossed the port in its entire length.

On 02nd February 2010, whilst Oscar Wilde was leaving the A&P shipyard in Falmouth, one of her engines took fire. Crew achieved extinguishing the fire with its own mean, yet Oscar Wilde had to go back to drydock to be repaired. She eventually resumed service on 7th March 2010, a month behind schedule.
