Service History

DFDS Seaways' Duke of Scandinavia (1978 - 2005)

Dana Anglia was ordered on 25th May 1975 by DFDS Seaways. Built between 1976 and 1977, she was introduced on 13th May 1978 on DFDS Seaways oldest route linking Esbjerg (DNK) and Harwich (GBR). Dana Anglia was rebuilt in 2000 to be equipped with sponsons, that increase her sea keeping ability.

When transferred to the Copenhaguen (DNK) – Gdansk (POL) service in 2002, Dana Anglia was renamed Duke of Scandinavia. She was then transferred to the Newcastle (GBR) – Ijmuiden (NLD) service in 2003. In late-2005, DFDS Seaways decided to increase the capacity proposed on this route and purchased former Brittany FerriesVal de Loire, on the purpose of replacing much smaller Duke of Scandinavia on this service.

After the sale of Val de Loire to DFDS Seaways, Brittany Ferries decided to charter in Duke of Scandinavia to operate services between Roscoff and Plymouth, whilst Bretagne was sent back to the Saint-Malo – Portsmouth service. Duke of Scandinavia was to be chartered until the delivery of a new-RoPax vessel (planned in 2008), called Bretagne 2 and built for the Roscoff - Plymouth route. Once delievred to Brittany Ferries, Duke of Scandinavia was renamed Pont l'Abbé.

In June 2006, Brittany Ferries refurbished Pont l'Abbé's former HGV drivers lounge located at deck 07 to a lounge equipped with reclining seats. However, Brittany Ferries has not changed anything else, due to the chartering contract that prevented Brittany Ferries to do so. Pont l'Abbé however was overhauled before entering service, enabling her to upgrade her to a very good state.

In December 2007, at the end of her charter, Brittany Ferries decided to purchase Pont l'Abbé due to Bretagne 2 being delivered much behind schedule. Pont l'Abbé eventually performed her last crossing with the company on 09th November 2008, and was laid up in Saint-Nazaire, available for sell. Pont l'Abbé was then replaced by Armorique in February 2009 on the Roscoff – Plymouth route.

In October 2009, Moby Line chartered for three years Pont l’Abbé, renaming her Moby Corse for their summer-only service between Toulon and Bastia. She was sent to Brest’s shipyard to be overhauled and painted.

Moby Corse is still in service in 2016, operated alongside Moby Vincent on the Genoa – Bastia service.
