Leinster was built in 1980 and delivered to B+I Lines in 1981. Leinster was introduced on 3rd July on the Dublin – Liverpool service, before being transferred in 1982 to the Dublin – Holyhead service. Leinster has been designed exclusively for these routes, and has a sister, Connacht, that has been later known as Brittany Ferries’ Duchesse Anne.
In March 1993, Leinster was renamed Isle of Inishmore (1). Isle of Inishmore (1) has operated Rosslare - Pembroke Deck services from 1993 although her main route remained the Dublin - Holyhead service until the delivery of much larger Isle of Innisfree (2) on this route in 1995.
In October 1995, Isle of Inishmore (1) was berthed in Rosslare at the middle of a severe gale, and owing to the strong winds she collided with the quay. She was hence sent to the Falmouth shipyard to be repaired. Meanwhile, she has been renamed Isle of Inishturk. Once repaired, Isle of Inishturk resumed service on the Rosslare – Pembroke Dock service, before being replaced once again by Isle of Innisfree (2) in 1997.
Laid up in Le Havre, Isle of Inishturk was offered for sale. She was purchased in March 1997 by the Canadian Government, which renamed her Madeleine. Since then, she has been operated by CTMA on a route that links Souris to Cap aux Meules.
